Hamas Disbands Gaza Government in Gesture

Hamas said Monday it was dissolving the administrative committee that has run the Gaza Strip, framing it as a response to Trump administration demands for a credible Palestinian peace process.

Analysts described the move as largely cosmetic, noting the absence of any commitment to disarm the group’s military wing.

Israel’s government immediately branded it a trick and reiterated its condition that Hamas lay down all arms.

Behind the scenes, Egyptian mediators floated the possibility that Hamas might accept a phased disarmament linked to an international reconstruction force, though Israeli resistance to such a force remains strong.
