Hantavirus outbreak reaches Canada

Canadian health officials have confirmed that a passenger from the MV Hondius cruise ship has tested positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus.

The patient, a resident of British Columbia, is currently in stable condition while isolating following the international outbreak.

The Andes strain is particularly concerning as it is one of the few variants capable of person-to-person transmission.

While the risk to the general public remains low, officials are monitoring dozens of other passengers who may have been exposed during the voyage.
