Samsung union suspends strike

Samsung Electronics has reached a tentative wage agreement with its largest labor union, narrowly averting a strike that threatened global semiconductor production.

The deal includes a 6.2 percent average pay raise and a new performance-based bonus scheme tied to the company's booming memory chip business.

While the agreement has stabilized the company's stock price, it has also sparked internal resentment among workers in other divisions who feel excluded from the lucrative bonuses.

Union members began voting on the deal Friday, with results expected to be finalized by May 27.
