Lithuania issues drone air alert

Lithuania issues drone air alert

Lithuanian authorities issued an 'air danger' warning on Wednesday, grounding flights at Vilnius Airport and suspending train traffic around the capital.

The alert followed military reports of a drone incursion from Belarus, highlighting escalating security jitters on NATO's eastern flank.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen condemned the incident, promising that 'Europe will respond' to repeated Russian-linked drone provocations.

The alert was lifted after about an hour, but it marked the first such event in a NATO capital since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began.
