Amazon acquires Globalstar for $11.6B

Amazon is significantly expanding its footprint in the space-based internet sector with the multibillion-dollar acquisition of Globalstar.

The deal grants Amazon control over Globalstar's valuable wireless spectrum and low-Earth orbit satellite constellation, which will be integrated into the upcoming Leo service.

Crucially, Amazon will continue to support Globalstar's existing contract with Apple, which provides emergency SOS connectivity for the latest iPhone models.

This strategic move is seen as a direct challenge to SpaceX's dominance in the satellite-to-cell market and positions Amazon as a primary provider of global mobile connectivity.
