Mark Carney Secures Majority

The Liberal Party's victory in University—Rosedale, Scarborough Southwest, and Terrebonne marks the first time in Canadian history a government has shifted from a minority to a majority between general elections.

Prime Minister Mark Carney immediately utilized his new mandate to suspend the federal fuel excise tax in response to rising costs from the Iran war.

The Conservative opposition, led by Pierre Poilievre, faces internal scrutiny following the defeat, though Poilievre has stated he has no plans to resign.

The majority government is now poised to table a significant spring economic update on April 28.
