House extends FISA spy powers

This followed a dramatic collapse of a GOP-led deal for a five-year extension, which was rejected by conservative holdouts over privacy and warrant concerns.

President Donald Trump and his allies had lobbied for a clean renewal, but the internal party division forced the temporary fix.

The Senate must now act before the authority expires to prevent a lapse in foreign intelligence collection.
