Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Passes 1,400

The death toll from Venezuela's twin earthquakes rose to over 1,430, with nearly 70,000 people reported missing as rescue operations entered their fourth day.

International aid teams from the United States and other nations poured into the country, pulling survivors including a nine-month-old baby and an 11-year-old boy from collapsed buildings.

The devastation struck personally for Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo, whose wife and two children died when their apartment building collapsed, while Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas worked to evacuate his family from the disaster zone.

Pope Leo XIV offered prayers for the victims as the official death count continued to climb and hope for finding additional survivors faded rapidly.
