Malaysian Village Fire Displaces Thousands
Drone footage from the Sandakan district shows thick black smoke rising above the settlement as strong winds and narrow access routes hindered firefighting efforts.
While no deaths have been reported, the destruction has left thousands of stateless and Indigenous people in desperate need of temporary shelter and aid.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which is one of the most devastating to hit the region in recent years.
Local NGOs have launched emergency appeals to provide food, water, and medical supplies to the survivors now living in temporary camps.
