Venezuela Quake Toll Surpasses 1,900

The back-to-back earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela last week have left a trail of devastation, with the death toll climbing to over 1,900 and a humanitarian crisis unfolding.

UNICEF estimated that around 1.8 million people, including 680,000 children, require humanitarian assistance.

Rescue workers from multiple countries have pulled survivors from the rubble, including a child rescued six days after the quake, but the window for finding more alive is rapidly closing.

The disaster has also exposed the severe strain on Venezuela’s healthcare system and sparked criticism of the government’s response.
