Zohran Mamdani’s tax plan backlash

Mamdani drew particular ire after filming a promotional video outside the Manhattan penthouse of billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin.

The tax is intended to fund a $70 million initiative for government-run supermarkets in underserved areas like East Harlem.

However, real estate experts argue the plan will cost four times the normal construction price and lose money in perpetuity, while potentially driving wealthy residents out of the city.
