Oyo school abductions spark outrage

Gunmen have abducted at least 25 people, including schoolchildren and teachers, in Nigeria's Oyo state, resulting in the death of one teacher in captivity.

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the 'barbaric' attack and ordered an immediate rescue operation as security forces clash with the kidnappers.

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed additional detectives to the region to secure the release of the victims.

Local traditional rulers are now demanding a permanent federal military base in the area to tackle the worsening insecurity and frequent banditry.
