Trump Pays Carroll $5.6M in Sex Abuse Case
Writer E. Jean Carroll has collected $5.6 million in damages from President Donald Trump after the Supreme Court declined to intervene in the civil verdict finding that he sexually abused and defamed her.
The payment, which includes interest, marks the first time Trump has been forced to pay Carroll, following years of legal battles.
Trump had asked the Supreme Court justices on July 6 to take the unusual step of reconsidering their rejection of his appeal, but no decision had been made before the payment was processed.
The case stems from a jury finding that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll in a department store dressing room in the 1990s and subsequently defamed her by denying the attack.
