Pope Leo XIV visits Algeria

Pope Leo XIV's landmark visit to Algeria has taken on significant diplomatic weight amid his ongoing public feud with US President Donald Trump.

On the second day of his tour, the pontiff traveled to the ancient city of Annaba to honor St. Augustine, the fifth-century theologian whose teachings on 'just war' have informed the Pope's opposition to the conflict in Iran.

While the visit has been conducted under tight security, it was marred by two failed suicide attacks near the capital that claimed no victims other than the assailants.

The Pope told reporters he has 'no fear' of the Trump administration, insisting the Vatican's calls for peace are rooted in the Gospel.
