Russia-Ukraine Easter Ceasefire Fails

The hope for a temporary respite in the Russia-Ukraine war has been dashed as the Orthodox Easter ceasefire collapsed within hours of its commencement.

Ukraine's military reported 469 violations by Russian forces, including deadly drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in southern port cities.

Russia, in turn, alleged that Ukrainian drones targeted the border regions of Kursk and Belgorod, injuring several civilians.

The failure of the truce, which was mediated by the United Arab Emirates and included a prisoner swap of 175 servicemen from each side, underscores the deep-seated distrust and the stalled nature of broader diplomatic efforts.
