Russia calls for BRICS food reserve

The proposal comes as the Iran war continues to disrupt global trade routes and drive up the cost of agricultural inputs like fertilizer.

Russia is seeking to deepen economic ties with fellow Soviet neighbors and BRICS partners to ensure a stable supply of essential commodities.

The official noted that the current crisis has exposed the vulnerability of the global food system to geopolitical friction.

The initiative is seen as part of a broader effort by Moscow to build alternative trade networks that are less dependent on Western-controlled financial systems.
