Gowon autobiography launch in Abuja

General Yakubu Gowon, who led Nigeria through its civil war and served as head of state for nine years, has released his memoirs in a star-studded ceremony in the capital.

Gowon used the occasion to reflect on his 1975 ouster, which occurred while he was attending an OAU summit in Uganda, and to call for continued faith in Nigeria's unity.

The launch attracted significant financial support, including a N3 billion donation from Gen. Theophilus Danjuma and N500 million from Aliko Dangote.

The autobiography is expected to provide a definitive account of one of the most consequential periods in modern Nigerian history.
