Fugitive Brazilian Spy Chief Detained

The arrest of Alexandre Ramagem in the United States ends a six-month international manhunt for the convicted Bolsonaro ally.

Ramagem, a former congressman and police officer, fled Brazil in September to avoid serving his sentence for plotting to prevent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking office.

A Brazilian senator has reportedly appealed for Ramagem to be granted political asylum, claiming he is a victim of political persecution.

ICE officials have not yet confirmed if the former spy chief will be extradited to face justice in Brasilia.
