Nigeria opposition alliance falters

Nigeria's political landscape has been upended as prominent opposition leaders Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have officially withdrawn from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Their departure follows a period of intense internal friction and leadership disputes within the newly formed coalition intended to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.

Obi and other defectors have announced their alignment with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), signaling a further fragmentation of the opposition.

This move has been met with both criticism from rivals and calls for unity from supporters who fear a weakened challenge to President Bola Tinubu's administration.
