Lyrid meteor shower peaks

Lyrid meteor shower peaks

Active since last week, the Lyrids are known for producing bright fireballs and glowing dust trails that can last for several seconds.

Astronomers recommend viewing the shower in the early morning hours of April 22, away from city lights and light pollution.

While the Lyrids typically produce around 18 meteors per hour, occasional outbursts can see that number surge significantly.

This year's peak coincides with a favorable moon phase, making it one of the best viewing opportunities for the event in recent years.
