Ebola Outbreak Spreads, Vaccine Trials Begin

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expanded to two more provinces, Haut-Uele and Tshopo, bringing the total number of affected provinces to five and the caseload close to 1,900.

In response, the University of Oxford has begun the first human trial of a vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, developed in just eight weeks.

A US citizen who contracted Ebola in Congo was admitted to a special isolation unit at Frankfurt University Hospital.
