Rep. David Scott dies at 80

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus confirmed Scott's passing during their weekly luncheon on Capitol Hill.

A moderate Democrat representing Atlanta's southern suburbs, he was seeking a thirteenth term in office at the time of his death.

Scott was remembered by colleagues as a fierce advocate for issues affecting Black communities and a key voice on farm and food policy.

His death slightly widens the Republican majority in the House, as he becomes the fifth member of the current Congress to die in office.
