Europe faces jet fuel shortage

IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol described the situation as the 'largest energy crisis' in history, noting that Europe is particularly vulnerable due to its reliance on fuel shipments through the Persian Gulf.

Major airlines have already begun reducing flight schedules, and officials are war-gaming for potential cancellations as early as late May.

The shortage is a direct consequence of the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, which has brought maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to a near-standstill.

Travelers are being advised to book refundable tickets as the industry braces for a period of extreme volatility.
