House Votes to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation with broad bipartisan support to make daylight saving time permanent, ending the twice-yearly clock change.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where it faces an uncertain future.

Proponents, including the White House, argued the change would provide more daylight during the times that Americans are most active, with the vote passing 308–117.

The legislation, known as the Sunshine Protection Act, would implement year-round daylight saving time nationwide, though the U.S. previously tried this in 1973 with mixed results.
