Haiti's UN-Backed Force Deploys

UN special envoy Carlos Ruiz Massieu reported that the mission is moving forward with strong international support, despite the immense challenges on the ground.

The force is intended to restore order in a capital that has been largely controlled by criminal networks for years.

While the deployment is a significant milestone, human rights groups have warned that the mission must avoid the abuses that characterized previous international interventions in Haiti.

The success of the force will be measured by its ability to secure critical infrastructure and allow for the return of normal economic activity.
