UK Tariff Cuts for Essentials

UK Tariff Cuts for Essentials

In a major policy shift aimed at easing inflation, the UK government has moved to eliminate import duties on a wide range of essential grocery items.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves stated that the cuts are necessary to offset the 'energy shock' caused by the conflict in the Middle East, which has driven up shipping and production costs.

The list of 125 products includes healthy staples like avocados and limes, as well as critical cooking ingredients such as olive oil.

While the move was welcomed by consumer groups, some analysts warned that the savings may take weeks to reach store shelves and could be overshadowed by the looming rise in energy bills.
