Nexstar-Tegna TV Merger Blocked

U.S. District Judge Troy Nunley issued a preliminary injunction on Friday, halting the deal until a full antitrust lawsuit can be resolved.

The merger would have combined two of the largest owners of local TV stations in the United States, raising alarms about reduced competition and increased advertising costs.

The Department of Justice has been closely monitoring the deal, which has faced intense opposition from consumer advocacy groups.

Nexstar and Tegna must now remain separate entities as the legal battle continues in federal court.
