Israel-Lebanon ceasefire begins

Israel-Lebanon ceasefire begins

Despite the pause in major hostilities, the Lebanese army has reported instances of Israeli shelling in southern border towns, and Israel's defense minister warned that the military operation is 'not complete.' Residents returning to the southern suburbs of Beirut have found entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble by weeks of airstrikes.

The ceasefire agreement requires Lebanon to take full control of its security, though questions remain about Hezbollah's willingness to disarm.

US officials are hopeful this respite will facilitate a deal to end the wider regional conflict and reopen global trade routes.
