Valve Reveals $1,049 Steam Machine

Valve officially announced the Steam Machine, a living-room PC-console hybrid, will launch on June 29 starting at $1,049 for the 512GB model, significantly higher than originally planned due to component costs.

The company is using a reservation system to manage limited initial supply and will also release SteamOS for DIY builds.

The price has sparked disappointment among fans, though Valve says it is not subsidizing the hardware.

The company is also making it easier for users to build their own Steam Machines.
