Pope Leo visits Cameroon

Pope Leo visits Cameroon

Large crowds welcomed Pope Leo XIV to Yaounde, marking his return to a country he first visited as a young priest.

In a speech at the presidential palace, the Pope urged the government to resist the 'whims of the rich and powerful' and called for an end to the nation's long-running Anglophone conflict.

The visit comes as the Catholic Church sees rapid growth in Africa while congregations shrink in Europe.

Despite being the target of recent attacks on social media, the Pope insisted that dialogue and coexistence are the messages the world needs most today.
