Serena Williams Ousted in Wimbledon First Round

Serena Williams fell to Australian Maya Joint in a three-set thriller at Wimbledon, losing 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 in her first Grand Slam singles match since the 2022 US Open.

The 23-time major champion fought off a match point in the second set to force a decider, but ultimately could not overcome the 20-year-old qualifier.

After the match, Williams risked a fine by skipping her mandatory press conference but later released a statement on social media.

The American legend will continue her Wimbledon campaign in doubles alongside her sister Venus.
