Keiko Fujimori Narrowly Wins Peru Presidency

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori won Peru's presidential runoff by fewer than 50,000 votes, vowing to restore 'order and hope' to the Andean nation.

Her victory extends a conservative wave in Latin America after a polarising campaign dominated by concerns over crime and economic stagnation.

Fujimori, the daughter of imprisoned former president Alberto Fujimori, has promised a tough-on-crime approach and pro-business policies.

The result marks her third attempt at the presidency after narrow defeats in 2011 and 2016.
