Keiko Fujimori leads Peru election

Peru's attempt to reset its political course after years of instability has descended into confusion as thousands of voters were unable to cast ballots on Sunday.

Electoral authorities have extended voting into Monday for several districts, including Lima and overseas locations in Florida and New Jersey.

Keiko Fujimori, a dominant figure in Peruvian politics, currently holds about 23% of the vote according to early official counts.

The final results may take days to materialize as the nation waits to see who will join her in the second round of its ninth presidential transition in a decade.
