US Kicks Off $166B Tariff Refunds
Managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the portal allows more than 330,000 importers to submit documentation for reimbursements on over 53 million shipments.
While the government expects to issue approximately $127 billion in electronic refunds initially, the process could take months to complete.
Despite the massive payout to corporations, economists warn that individual consumers are unlikely to see a significant drop in retail prices.
The launch was marred by reports of technical glitches and error messages as thousands of companies attempted to access the system simultaneously.
