Cargo Ship Struck in Strait of Hormuz

A cargo vessel was struck by a projectile identified as an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, sustaining damage to its bridge while sailing southeast of Oman.

The attack came hours after Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority warned ships against navigating through unauthorized routes.

The UN's International Maritime Organization immediately paused its evacuation programme for the estimated thousands of seafarers still stranded in the waterway following the earlier Iran conflict.

The incident threatens to unravel the fragile US-Iran peace deal and has already pushed oil prices higher as tanker traffic disruptions return to the vital chokepoint.
