Pope Leo XIV visits Algeria

Pope Leo XIV visits Algeria

On the second day of his tour, the Pope traveled to the ancient city of Annaba, the birthplace of St. Augustine, whom he considers his spiritual father.

The visit takes place under heavy security following two failed suicide attacks near Algiers on the day of his arrival.

Despite the tensions, thousands of faithful gathered to attend a historic Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Africa.

Leo's message has emphasized service over domination, calling on regional authorities to prioritize the needs of their people.
