High Court Rejects Facial Recognition Challenge
The challenge was brought by two individuals and supported by the advocacy group Big Brother Watch, who described the technology as 'disturbing' and an intrusion into civil liberties.
The Metropolitan Police argued that LFR is a vital tool for identifying and arresting suspects, particularly in cases of shoplifting and violent crime.
The court's decision allows the police to continue trialing and deploying the technology across the capital.
Privacy campaigners have expressed disappointment, warning that the ruling sets a dangerous precedent for state surveillance.
