Irish police break refinery blockade

The blockade, involving truck and tractor drivers, had significantly disrupted fuel distribution across Ireland, leading to widespread shortages and major highway closures.

Officers used pepper spray and public order units to restore access for fuel tankers, while the government held emergency talks with agricultural and haulage groups.

Protesters are demanding immediate financial support to mitigate the impact of the global energy crisis sparked by the war in Iran.

While access to the refinery has been partially restored, the head of the police service warned that further disruptive demonstrations will no longer be tolerated.
