Lafarge guilty of terror financing

Lafarge guilty of terror financing

In a landmark ruling, Lafarge has been convicted of deliberately and knowingly funding jihadist groups during the Syrian civil war.

Former CEO Bruno Lafont was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the scheme, which involved millions of dollars in payments to ISIL and the Al-Nusra Front.

The court determined that the company prioritized profit and business continuity over international sanctions and human rights.

This case represents the first time a French corporation has been held criminally liable for financing terrorism.
