Soldier Charged in Maduro Betting Scheme
Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who was involved in the covert operation to capture former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, faces multiple federal charges including wire fraud and unlawful monetary transactions.
Prosecutors allege Van Dyke placed thirteen separate bets on the timing of the raid just hours before the mission was publicly announced.
The case marks the first U.S. criminal prosecution for insider trading within the rapidly growing prediction market industry.
Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his identity and laundered the proceeds into foreign cryptocurrency accounts.
