Kami Rita Sherpa breaks record

Nepalese mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has reached the summit of Mount Everest for a record-breaking 32nd time.

His achievement comes as fellow climber Lhakpa Sherpa extended her own record for the most ascents by a woman.

The record-breaking climbs occurred during a busy spring season that has seen hundreds of climbers attempt the world's highest peak.

Both Sherpas were praised by the Nepalese government for their enduring dedication to the sport and their role in promoting the country's mountaineering industry.
