Ireland fuel protests cause chaos

The Irish government is facing a 'very dangerous economic moment' as fuel protesters continue to paralyze critical infrastructure.

Police have moved to break a blockade at the Whitegate refinery in County Cork, using pepper spray to disperse demonstrators.

While some fuel tankers have regained access, the industry warns that hundreds of forecourts remain empty across the country.

Ministers are expected to hold further talks with haulage and farm sector representatives to discuss targeted support payments as the crisis threatens food and drink supply chains.
