The Henry Aldridge & Son auction in Wiltshire saw a flurry of interest in artifacts from the 1912 maritime disaster.

The life jacket belonged to Laura Mabel Francatelli, a secretary who escaped the sinking ship on a lifeboat that famously drew criticism for leaving with many empty seats.

The final price of £670,000 (US$906,000) underscores the enduring global fascination with the Titanic's tragic history.

Other items in the auction included a gold watch and a seat cushion from one of the lifeboats.
