U.S.-Iran Doha Talks Hit Early Obstacles

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Doha for technical talks with Qatari mediators on implementing the fragile ceasefire with Iran.

However, Qatari officials confirmed the envoys would not meet directly with Iranian representatives, clouding prospects for a diplomatic breakthrough.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued stark warnings, saying Tehran would not begin final negotiations until Washington fulfilled the memorandum of understanding's clauses on releasing $6 billion in frozen assets.

The talks come as reports suggest Iran and Oman are exploring a plan to jointly charge tolls for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
