Fatal Train Collision Near Bedford

A train driver was killed and 89 people injured after two East Midlands Railway services collided on the same line near Bedford shortly after 5pm on Friday.

British Transport Police declared a major incident, with more than 20 ambulances and six air ambulances attending the scene.

All lines between Luton and Bedford remain blocked, causing severe disruption to services to and from London St Pancras.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has opened an inquiry into the cause of the collision.
