Tennessee stops execution

Tennessee has halted the planned execution of death row inmate Tony Carruthers after prison medical staff were unable to find a suitable vein for the lethal injection.

The state has not yet announced a new date for the execution.

Staff reportedly spent over an hour attempting to establish an IV line before the procedure was officially called off.

Carruthers was convicted of a triple murder in 1994 and has been on death row for three decades.
