Judge Blocks White House Ballroom

Judge Blocks White House Ballroom

U.S. District Judge Richard Leon clarified that while visible construction on the ballroom must stop, below-ground work on a presidential bunker and other security facilities can continue.

The ruling is a significant setback for Trump's plan to leave a gaudy architectural legacy on the White House grounds.

Government lawyers had argued that the project was necessary to guard against modern threats like drones and ballistic missiles, but the judge called these claims 'disingenuous.' The legal feud is expected to escalate as the administration considers an appeal to a higher court.

Preservationist groups have hailed the decision as a victory for the historic integrity of the executive mansion.
