Sainsbury's warns of war impact
Chief Executive Simon Roberts echoed the cautious sentiment previously expressed by rival Tesco, noting that shoppers are becoming increasingly focused on the cost of living.
While the company reported a pre-tax profit of £619 million, it warned that food inflation could return if the Iran war continues to disrupt global supply chains.
Sainsbury's has pledged to maintain an 'absolute focus' on keeping prices low for customers despite the volatile market.
The stationer WH Smith joined the warning, suspending its dividend as travel disruption hits its airport-based outlets.
