Scorching temperatures across the UK have claimed lives, including an 18-year-old who died in a Greater Manchester reservoir, and prompted hosepipe bans for millions.

Fire chiefs warned of an “extreme” wildfire risk as the heatwave shows no sign of ending, with record temperatures of 35.2C recorded in Derbyshire.
