Sir Keir Rodney Starmer is a British politician and former lawyer who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2024, and as Leader of the Labour Party since 2020. Starmer announced his resignation from both positions on 22 June 2026, and will remain in office until the conclusion of the 2026 Labour Party leadership election, when he is expected to be succeeded by Andy Burnham. Prior to his premiership, Starmer served as Leader of the Opposition from 2020 to 2024. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015. Before entering politics he was a barrister and served as Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013.
